I was on the Ponchos baseball team sometime ‘round 2003
when a most unique and extraordinary thing happened
I was patrolling centerfield, Gavy with his bionic arm was in left, and Santos, well, he was just trying to play (Right)
We hadn’t won a single game that season, and perhaps that was the reason, the baseball god’s had a special gift for us all that day.
There were strikeouts, and divin’ catches, line drives flying over the fences…
I thought we’d seen it all that day, but I was wrong.
It was out of nowhere in he jogged and I knew right then I had to write his song...
‘cause it ain’t every day you see a three legged dog
The old man was on the mound that day, Uncle Glenn was behind the plate. Don Wright (fellow songwriter) hugged the line at 3rd
But the star of this game wasn’t on the field. It was hard to believe that he was even real, yet there he stood as if he was rooting us on
There were strikeouts, and divin’ catches, line drives hit over the fence, I thought we’d seen it all that day, but I was wrong
It was out of nowhere in he jogged and I knew right then I had to write his song
‘cause it ain’t every day you see a three legged dog
It was a tight in the 7th inning, but, man, we forgot all about winning because as quick as he showed up he was gone.
I can’t remember what I did at the plate that game but I’ll always remember that fateful day when I came face to face with a three legged dog.
